Annual Legislative Luncheon The 2009 Annual Legislative Luncheon was held November 20, 2009 in Fairfield, Idaho. The luncheon
was sponsored by the Camas Soil Conservation District (SCD), the Wood River SWCD, Blaine SCD and the Gooding SCD.
The meeting was held at the Iron Mountain Inn Restaurant, and was hosted by the Camas SCD. Each
year, our legislators from District 25 are invited to attend the luncheon and discuss any concerns or issues pertaining to
soil conservation/land management practices and natural resource programs supported by the Conservation Districts.
All three
of our legislators- Representative Wendy Jaquet, Representative Donna Pence and Michelle Stennett (representing Senator Clint
Stennett)- were in attendance. Camas SCD was fortunate to have every supervisor present- Steve Miller,
Jerry Young, Bill Davis, Kevin Wear and Kaylin Dennis (District Admin). A very informative and productive
meeting full of pro-active discussion was conducted. Each sponsoring District spoke to the legislators
about current conservation projects happening in their respective Districts, such as spring and pond developments, weed abatement
programs, sponsoring youth activities, and other cooperative projects with ranchers and farmers. The Camas SCD was pleased
to share about the ongoing Manmade Community Park Project and its progress.
The legislators, in turn, praised the Districts for their ongoing
productivity, discussed grants, land practices and governmental changes happening in the next legislative session.
A website posted by the State of Idaho concerning budgetary efficiency and encouraging Idahoans to comment on how best
to make Idaho’s State government as efficient and effective as possible was also discussed.
